The most common hardware problems are inoperable cranks or operators for casement windows and clutches and balances for double hung windows.
Double hung windows (both sashes move up and down) require balances to keep proper tension on your sashes so that they slide up and down easily and will stay up when the window is open. If your window won't stay up, it could be the result of a broken clutch or balance.
